Oasis of the seas will be launched sometime in the winter of 2009. The first US home port will be Port Canaveral in Florida. It will bring a repertoire of amenities that might leave the holiday seekers in complete awe. The ship is blessed to break into newer territories of luxury.

How does it feel to know that the ship would have 2400 staterooms? The rooms will obviously be divided into various categories leading up to the President’s Suite. Further, the balcony seats or the cabin seats will also be allotted in accordance with the purse strings. It is believed at present that the luxury liner will hold as many as 5400 guests. This will let the tourists luxuriate in the privacy of spread out space. After all, a room for two on an average is quite an accommodation facility. As a new feature, not yet seen on any other cruise ship, there will be a new cabin category called family cabins. It will be a multi level cabin with several sleeping areas, perfect for a small family to stay, and spend time together. Also the balcony cabins now have a new touch. The ships construction now allows you to choose from balcony cabins with ocean view or balcony facing the internal ship areas such as Central Park. As a matter of facts, all the cabins above the waterline seems to be balcony cabins.

The ship is expected to be 16 decks high. This would give an impressive view of the sea shining under the misty moonlight or marked with morning iridescence. With 2, 20,000 GRT and 7 neighborhoods, the ship promises quite an amazing environment.

The rooms will be cut out in all possible dimensions. Few of them would adhere to the contemporary theme. Others would be marked out with an old-world charm that is so much in sync with the holiday mood. Stretching out lobby space and verandahs leading to the view of sea on the horizon can be a treat to the eyes. Such experiences automatically get etched into the memory for long.

The luxury liner will be replete with all kinds of indoor and outdoor sports. The recreational dens will hold various indoor games. Indoor heated swimming pools along with health spas and gymnasiums will define the modern look. At the same time, the grills and bars and firehouses will let the tourists give access to their festive mood.

Food on offer atop the luxury liner will be just as amazing. Ethnic variety along with top sea food on one side, and sumptuous global cuisines on the other side would let the tourists revel in lip-smacking fare. After all, what’s a holiday without good food?

Oasis of the seas will also be aligned to various excursion programs which will give the people on board a chance to indulge in adventures like deep SCUBA diving, surfboarding and snorkeling.

The Royal Caribbean International has well and truly decided to turn the suits into lofts and the Entertainment hubs into neighborhoods. There is probably nothing stopping them now.

Imagine a kitchen that is staffed and equipped to handle the 24 hours a day and 7 days a week needs of up to 5,000 diners and another 1,500 staff and crew members. Now imagine being in charge of that kitchen. Sounds pretty exciting, doesn’t it? Now what if we say that this giant kitchen is on one of the biggest ocean-going vessels in the world and it serves beautiful and exotic ports in the Caribbean, Mediterranean, and Baltic Seas? Sounds even better, right?

These are the types of opportunities that are available to seasoned, well-trained chefs who choose a career at sea as a chef on a cruise ship.

Florida Chefs are Headed off to Sea

Clearly the job of a chef on a cruise ship is every bit as demanding as a chef in a posh hotel or resort with the added complication of everything being done at sea.

Cruise ships are actually giant hotels at sea. Each year the major cruise lines like Royal Caribbean and Princess try to outdo each other by building the largest ships. Royal Caribbean is currently building the world’s largest passenger ship. At 1,180 feet long and gross tonnage of 220,000, the Oasis of the Seas will carry up to 5,400 passengers to various ports around the world. Those 5,400 guests will need to be fed by an army of culinary professionals ranging from entry-level crew cooks to executive chefs.

Cruise ship chefs must manage the operations of the ships main kitchens plus the dozen or so smaller restaurants, grilles and snack bars located throughout the largest ships. Guests are showered in luxury on most cruise ships with meal selections that one would expect at the best 4- and 5-star hotel restaurants: beef wellington, roast duck confit, grilled sea bass and desserts to please the most discriminating diner.

Chefs are responsible for the proper distribution and portioning of the food stores so that no guests will go without. Executive and sous-chefs oversee all food services to ensure the proper preparation and distribution of meals. As you can imagine, it’s important that food is managed efficiently to minimize waste and maximize what can be served from the ships stores.

Flexible schedules usually allow crew members to get out and explore the exotic destinations of the ship, making the job of cruise ship chef not just a job but an adventure.

Applying for your dream cruise ship job can be a very frustrating process – not only is the competition hot for each job, but the adverts for the positions can be quite off putting.

This is just a ruse by the cruise line company to ensure that only the best applicants apply for the job. They actually design their cruise ship job adverts to discourage people from applying. Sounds counter productive, doesn’t it? But the logic is simple. If they receive hundreds of applications, they can guarantee that many of these will just be a waste of their time. So if they can prevent the weakest applications from arriving then they are going to make their jobs easier.

It is quite common to find an advert for a cruise ship job that may be for a position that you think would suit you. But after reading the details of the advert, you will discover that the company is looking for a university degree, no less than three years of experience in a similar role, fluency in at least two other languages, and even more demanding criteria.

Their aim is to discourage people and it has the desired effect. But the truth is you should not be put off by cruise ship job adverts like this. Quite often the cruise line companies use this as a technique to prevent too many people from applying for a position.

But if you think you have what it takes to get the job, then go for it! Send in a fantastic resume package and don’t worry too much about all the skills they are asking for. Instead, highlight all the things you are good at and what would make you suitable for the job. Post it by snail mail so that it is delivered to them at their desks and then send a couple of follow up emails afterwards to back up your application.

They will be impressed by your determination, and in reality it is the people like you that they are looking for when it comes to filling their cruise ship job positions. It is near impossible to have all the skills listed in their advert, and if they were determined to fill their criteria, they would never hire anybody.

When they see your application they will know that you are one of the more serious jobseekers, and that you are prepared to make a special effort to get the cruise ship job that you’re after. Do this and you’re going to be in a great position, and remember that the worst that they could do is say “no”.

The secret is to simply just do it when it comes to applying for a cruise ship job. Lots of people may share the dream, but the truth is many of them never get around to doing anything about it, and that is the biggest barrier in their way to getting a cruise ship job.

If you don’t know where to start then just go on the internet and search for all the companies that you would like to work for. Write them all down, and then start looking at the individual positions on board the ships and work out which type of position would suit you best. There you go—you’ve made a start already!

Get going, get your application out there, and don’t be put off by job adverts. If you’ve got what it takes to get a cruise ship job then just go for it and you’ll have a greater chance of success.

Vacationing is a pastime that is enjoyed by many.  While vacations are nice, needed, and important, they can become costly. This cost is often associated with additional expenses such as food, beverages, and entertainment.  If you are interested in vacationing aboard a cruise ship, but you are worried about the cost, you don’t necessarily have to be.

All-inclusive cruise ships are cruise ships where just about everything is included.  The cost of your drinks, food, and entertainment are often taken care of.  If you are wondering whether or not you should book reservations aboard a traditional cruise ship or an all-inclusive cruise ship, you are not alone.  A large number of travels wonder the same thing.

When it comes in all-inclusive cruise ships, there are a number of advantages and disadvantages. To determine whether you could benefit from an all-inclusive cruise ship, you are encouraged to weight the advantages and disadvantages each.  After you have considered each, you are encouraged to make a decision.  If the advantages outweigh the disadvantages then an all-inclusive cruise ship may be just what you need and visa versa.

The biggest advantage of all-inclusive cruise ships is that most of your needs are taken care of.  As previously mentioned, most all-inclusive cruises cover food, drinks, and entertainment.  If you are interested in drinking a large amount of alcohol or feasting on the amazing onboard food, you may be able to do so free of charge. You may also be granted exclusive admittance into movie theatres and video arcades.

To many, having foods, drinks, and entertainment provided free of charge sounds too good to be true.  In some cases, it may be.  While many of your food and drinks are included in an all-inclusive package, not all are.  It is possible that you may be required to pay for your alcoholic beverages. There are some cruise ships where alcohol beverages are included in the package, but on others it is not.

When it comes to food, your food at a sit-down restaurant may be provided free of charge, but your snacks are typically not covered. This often includes snacks or small meals purchased at onboard specialty shops and vending machines.  If your snacks and small meals are not covered, you can prevent the extra expenses by eating a large meal.  You may also be able to save money by brining your own snacks onboard, if the cruise ship allows it.

As mentioned above, entertainment is often included in an all-inclusive cruise ship package.  As with food and drinks, the entertainment is often limited.  It is likely that you will gain free admission into a dance or ball, but you will not be able to gamble free of charge.  If you are interested in gambling aboard the ship’s casino, you will have to come up with your own funds.

When it comes to the cost of an all-inclusive cruise, there are many travelers who get confused.  The cost of an all-inclusive cruise may seem high, but it is often that way to cover the cruise line’s expenses.  For many individuals, the cost of an all-inclusive cruise is a great value.  To determine whether or not you will save money aboard an all-inclusive cruise, you need to estimate your cost of food, drinks, and entertainment aboard a traditional cruise.  Simply by comparing the two, you can easily determine which cruise package offers the better deal.

The advantages and disadvantages of all-inclusive cruise ship vacations are important.  By examining each and comparing them to what you want and need out of your cruise, you can easily determine which cruise ship vacation package is right for you.

When you decide to pursue a career that involves working on a cruise ship it is important to look into all the expectations and opportunities that will develop from the opportunity. One of the biggest expectations that many individuals do not place enough importance on relates to the amount of time required with cruise ship jobs. Cruise ships frequently are the perfect chance for a person who is seeking to accumulate a lot of money without having the confinements of a home life. The contracts with cruise lines commonly vary between six to twelve months. This results in a cruise ship employee liable to spend the bulk of their time both working and living at sea.

For the individual who has limited ties this experience can be a break from land life and a new opportunity only few individuals get to experience. For a family conscious person the length of time at sea would pose a problem, as they would be absent from home. The cruise ship industry is a great employment opportunity for any individual but it is important to understand what will be expected from you regarding your time at sea.

An advantage that many individuals find when working on a cruise ship is that they have an opportunity to build new relationships. The average cruise runs from five to seven days which means for a cruise ship employee you have the opportunity to meet hundreds of new and interesting individuals on a weekly basis. In addition to creating relationships with your visitors you also have the chance to create strong and healthy relationships with your fellow crew members that you will be co existing with over the length of your cruise ship jobs. Careers on cruise ships can offer the contact and friendship channels from people all over the world that would be unattainable in the normal working atmosphere. The opportunity to develop new relationships with your cruise ship jobs is a large incentive to pursue careers on cruise ships.

The chance to make money is an additional advantage when seeking careers on cruise ships. The mistake that many individuals make when interpreting the money they are able to make is that they often only incorporate the salary they are being paid. This is a vital portion of your money making opportunities when working on cruise ships but there are additional sources of income that many individuals overlook. An example of additional income is represented by the number of tips you may be able to accumulate during your trips.

Remember that you will be servicing hundreds of clients on a weekly basis and even with one dollar from each guest the amount piles up fast. Located in the living accommodations of a person is a great illustration as to how money can be saved. You are afforded quarters, food and activities when you are employed on a cruise ship for an extended length of time. This represents hundreds or even thousands of dollars that the average individual would end up spending on a monthly basis.

Consider getting yourself and your family a luxury cruise vacation. On a particular date of departure, you will embark one of those first-class, hotel-alike cruise ships for the rest of your vacation.

It will serve as your sailboat, temporary home, shopping center, massage parlor, entertainment center, and so on.

A cruise ship can house all of these and other amenities in an urban area. Yes, it can. It makes a cruise a vacation not only an escapade to remember but also as an excellent option for your next holiday.

Cruise ships, or also known as cruise or luxury liners, are passenger ships used for pleasure voyages. The voyage itself and the amenities, which can be found on-board, are all essential part of the cruising experience.

The rapid growth of cruising in the travel industry prompted cruise lines to build modern ships that will cater to the needs of the growing number of cruise passengers.

It includes itineraries to transatlantic destinations, where engineers and sailors designed cruise ships that can survive different sea-related conditions.

History and Development

The famous Titanic is one of the ancestors of cruise ships today, which houses fine dining areas, well-appointed staterooms, and other amenities needed by the passengers on-board.

During the late 19th century, Director Albert Ballin of the Hamburg-America Line was the first individual to conduct a regular practice of sending his transatlantic ships on long southern trips during the worst winter condition in the North Atlantic.

Others followed, building specialized ships made to withstand summer and winter cruising conditions.

Other cruise destinations were introduced, like to the islands of Caribbean and through the Mediterranean. Thus, newer ships were built to accommodate cruises for these areas.

Not only as a ship, it is also used as propaganda to promote cruising vacation. The Love Boat– a 1970’s television series– featured Pacific Princess, the cruise ship of the Princess Cruise.

It raised the awareness of cruises as a vacation option not only for rich individuals but also for ordinary people in the United States.

Cruise Ships Now

In 2004, there are several hundreds of cruise ships, which have a carrying capacity of over 3,000 passengers and displacing over 100,000 tons. Thus, it is the largest ships ever built.

It can cruise to destinations as far as Antarctica. Modern ships are also considered much of a “floating hotel” with a complete staff in addition to the regular cruise ship crew.

These ships are also designed to handle adequate provisioning of foods. Cruise ships serve thousands of meals at each setting. Storage facilities for raw ingredients and beverages are equipped with the latest in storage technology.

Cruise ships can consume foods and beverages more can you expect on an average seven-day voyage. For instance, the passengers and crew of the ship Mariner of the Seas by Royal Caribbean International can consume 20,000 pounds of beef, 28,000 pieces of eggs, 8,000 gallons of ice cream, and 18,000 slices of pizza in a week.

Currently, Queen Mary 2 is the biggest ship at operation. It has 151,400 gross register tons and owned by the Cunard Line, one of the subsidiaries of the Carnival Corporation, the largest cruise ship company operating today.

This British cruise liner is 1,132 feet long, 236 feet high, and can carry 2,620 passengers. It is capable of venturing through the North Atlantic at a speed of 30 knots.

Queen Mary 2 has five on-board swimming pools, sweeping staircase, a ballroom, a 360-degree promenade deck, and different specialty shops. It is built to revive the glamour of ocean liners, which business has almost sunk when jet travel started its prominence across the Atlantic route.

Cruise Ship of the Future

Recently, the Royal Caribbean International announced last February 6, 2006 that they will be releasing in the fall of 2009 the largest and the most expensive cruise ship in the world, which amounted to an estimated price of $1.24 billion. It is named Project Genesis, which can also hold up to 6,400 passengers.

It is estimated to have a gross register ton of about 220,000. A gross register ton that is the standard measurement of a ship’s size, is equivalent to 100 cubic feet. The $1.24 billion cost will cover all the expenses required for interior finishing of the ship.

Now, what can you expect more from these cruise ships?

A cruise ship or cruise liner is a passenger ship used for pleasure long journey to long places by sea. Cruise ships are organized much like floating hotels, with a complete hospitality staff in addition to the usual ship’s crew. It is not uncommon for the most luxurious ships to have more crew and staff than passengers. In Cruise Ship the journey itself and the ship’s amenities are part of the experience. Now these days Cruising has become a major part of the tourism industry, with millions of passengers each year traveling with Cruise Ships. The number of cruise tourists worldwide in 2008 was estimated at some 20 millio. Cruise ships operate mostly on routes that return passengers to their originating port. In contrast, dedicated transport oriented ocean liners do “line voyages” and typically transport passengers from one point to another, rather than on round trips. Some cruise ships also engage in longer trips which may not lead back to the same port for many months also called longer round trips.
